Ruth Ejims, Emerges National Spelling Bee Champion For 2016

Cheers and applause enveloped the NECA Hall, Ikeja Lagos as Ruth Ejims of Shalom College,Port Harcourt was declared the winner of the 2016 National Spelling Bee Grand finale.

It was a day filled with suspense and anxiety for the Students,Teachers, Parents as well as Guests who were present at NECA Hall, Ikeja Lagos for the 2016 Spelling Bee Competition.

Ruth Ejims emerged winner of the 2016 Spelling Bee at the 16th round after spelling correctly the championship word.

Tirenioluwa Deborah Adedipe of The Ambassadors College, Ota, Ogun State emerged as the First runner-up of the Competition while Daniel Ogwara of Aladunmo International School, G.R.A Phase 1, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. emerged Second runners up.

As the winner of the National Spelling Bee Competition 2016, Ruth Ejims got a cash prize of N250,000 and N200,000 from Beta Malt and she becomes Beta Malt brand Ambassador for one year.

The First and Second runners up were given cash prizes of N150,000 and N100,000 respectively while their Teachers also went home with various prizes.

Ruth Ejims will represent Nigeria at the Scripps Spelling Bee Competition finals this month in the United States.

Ejims will square up with other global geniuses in a spelling competition.

Ruth Ejims who was full of excitement after the competition stated that she had always looked forward to emerging the winner of the contest as she is an avid reader of books and the dictionary.
